Inspired by Command-Line Utilities- part 1–idea

I recently stumbled upon Evan Hahn’s blog post about his collection of command-line utilities, and I have to say—I’m genuinely impressed.

What Makes These Tools So Impressive?

The brilliance isn’t in the complexity of these scripts. It’s in their simplicity and practicality. Evan has created dozens of small utilities that solve real, everyday problems:

  • Clipboard management tools that make copying and pasting from the command line effortless
  • File operations like mkcd (make directory and cd into it) and trash (move to trash instead of permanent delete)
  • Internet utilities for downloading media, managing wifi, and parsing URLs
  • Text processing helpers for formatting, case conversion, and quick edits
  • Time management tools with timers and date formatting
  • Process management utilities that make working with background processes actually pleasant

What really struck me is how these aren’t fancy, over-engineered solutions. They’re practical tools born from real workflow friction. Each one solves a specific problem that Evan encountered repeatedly.

Decision

As a Windows user and PowerShell enthusiast, I immediately thought: “I need PowerShell versions of these!”

Question

After reading the Evan Hahn’s blog post  , ask yourself : How much time do I need to translate those into powershell ? ( and add to the Powershell profile about_Profiles – PowerShell | Microsoft Learn )
